What was started in 1977 by Dallas Huston and Bill Jamar, to help raise money for kid’s sports in Brown County, continued Saturday morning at the Adams Street Community Center.
The 45th Annual Cherry Pie Auction raised $15,060 for area youth sports. The money will be split evenly between the Brownwood Freshman Baseball League, the Brownwood Girls Softball Association, Soccer For Fun and the Cen-Tex Soccer Association. More than 1,500 boys and girls participate and every penny raised goes directly to those youth sports programs.

Sports memorabilia brought in a substantial part of the funds raised, including a framed autographed photo of a rookie New York Met, Nolan Ryan, fetching $900. Footballs autographed by Terry Bradshaw and Gayle Sayers, each brought several hundred dollars. Two All-access field passes to a Brownwood Lions home football game also brought several hundred dollars.
In a change this year, the event took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and was also livestreamed at KOXE.com by Randy Turner with assistance from Staff Goins in the KOXE studio. Carl Wayne and Mike Blagg provided traditional live on-site coverage on KOXE 101.3 FM as well.
