KOXE Meteorologist Randy Turner has put together a few thoughts on the lengthy, bitterly cold Arctic outbreak that is already underway but forecast to get worse Saturday through the middle of next week.

  • The next 7 days will likely be the coldest weather most of us will ever experience in Texas.
  • This outbreak of cold will likely become the cold weather event talked about for generations to come.
  • Temperatures that are now below freezing will likely stay below freezing, day and night, until next Thursday, February 18.
  • Temperatures this coming Sunday night and Monday night will be very close to ZERO!
  • If you haven’t already, make sure you have plenty of food and water to last a week in your home.
  • If your home is an all electrical home, have an alternate means to stay warm and prepare food, should you lose electricity. Chances are good we may all lose electricity, at least sporadically, through the next week.
  • There is likely going to be a significant snow-storm coming our way starting this Sunday.  Most of the snow falls Sunday night and Monday. We are likely to see 4 to 5 inches of snow in Brownwood Sunday into Monday.
  • Any pipes or faucets left unprotected will burst in these frigid conditions.
  • Keep doors under your kitchen and bathroom sinks open to allow heat to the pipes.
  • Pets and Livestock will need all the shelter, food, water, love and care they can get.
  • Check on your neighbors, especially elderly friends and neighbors.
