Lions subvarsity teams win three in Stephenville

The Brownwood Freshman, JV and Freshman/Sophomore football teams all picked up victories over District 5-4A Division I rival Stephenville Thursday night.

JV Lions 42, Stephenville 8

The JV Lions offense was led by quarterback Case Markham and running back Brandon Holland, who each had three rushing touchdowns. Offensive linemen Roan Aguinaga, Jaydse Torres, Brandon Still, William Odell, and Damian Sanchez paved the way for over 250 yards rushing.

The Lions defense played hard all night allowing zero points after the Jackets opening touchdown to begin the game. Defensive back Noah Barron had two interceptions and multiple big hits. Safety Quintin Thompson and outside linebacker Azariah Dillard also played well for Lions defense, making many key tackles throughout the game.

Freshman Lions 28, Stephenville 6

After Stephenville took a 6-0 lead in the first period, the Lions grabbed a 7-6 lead in the second period on a 4-yard touchdown run by Ike Hall, coupled with a Hudson Reagan extra point.

Brownwood extended its lead to 14-6 at halftime thanks to a 25-yard touchdown pass from Hall to Morsello Hooker. Reagan added the second of his extra points.

The Lions tacked on two more touchdowns in the second half – a 5-yard run by Jaylon Brown in the third period and a 30-yard scoring toss from Hall to Colten McMillian in the fourth quarter.

Defensive standouts included Brown (5 tackles), Logan Posey (3 tackles, TFL), Hayden Deen (4 tackles, forced fumble, TFL), Quentin McCarty (sack, TFL), Gavin Brandstetter (interception) and Hooker (interception).

Freshman/Sophomore Lions 36, Stephenville 34

In other action Thursday night, the Brownwood Freshman/Sophomore team also picked up a 36-34 victory over Stephenville.
