Brown County Commissioners did not hesitate Monday morning to leave the Burn Ban in effect.  Even though some rain fell in Brown County Sunday night and early Monday, morning, it was spotty.  Conditions remain such that fires may start easily so the ban remains in place.

Commissioner Joel Kelton presided over the meeting with all Commissioners present.  Business was all conducted in just under 25 minutes and included the following:

Lisa Dick of the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department reported 111 current active cases of Covid-19.  Of that amount, 4 are hospitalized.  She reported a total of 33 new cases last week which was down considerably from more than 100 the week before.  Dick reported that the Health Department has a good working relationship with schools in the county with plans in place to deal with any positive cases that may result in a school.

Commissioners approved 4-0 the Quarterly Investment Report for the 2nd Quarter of this year.

Commissioners approved 4-0 a Resolution from Precinct 4 Commissioner Larry Traweek for the Federal Off System Bridge Program on County Road 146.  This is to structurally improve a bridge over Mud Creek using Federal, State and equivalent in-kind work from the County.

Commissioners approved 4-0 a request from County Sheriff Vance Hill to purchase two vehicles from the current year budget.  One vehicle is a 2020 4×4 Chevrolet Pickup for $33,818.  The other vehicle is a new Chevrolet Tahoe in the amount of $35,625.  Both purchases were made off Buy Board which is a purchasing cooperative for government agencies.

Commissioners approved 4-0 a request from Sheriff Hill to purchase specialized investigative equipment totaling $2,671.

In his jail report, Sheriff Hill said Brown County Jail currently has 176 inmates with only one of those being contracted by another county.  The state has not been taking inmates due to Covid therefore local jails are being impacted with more inmates, even though many inmates are ready to be sent to a state facility.
