Each student created an original work of art that they felt best represented the ideal of American patriotism. The students also wrote short essays based on how they feel patriotism could be expressed through art. Haleigh Clevenger placed 1st, and she was awarded a plaque and a $300 cash prize. Her artwork will advance on to the state level. Cassi Milton placed 2nd and was awarded a $200 cash prize, while Laura McBride placed 3rd and received a $100 cash prize. BHS Art Teacher Kimberly Van Huss said, “I am so proud of these students for entering the contest and for their display of love and pride for their country. We greatly appreciate the partnership with the VFW Auxiliary.”
