Partnership forged to promote photography

The Brownwood Art Association and the BAA Photo Group have partnered together to promote several photography related events during the month of October in addition to other art related activities scheduled during the month. These photography events correlate with the 5th annual BAA Photo Group exhibit on October 6th. This year’s exhibit theme is titled, “All About Texas” and will feature images capturing iconic Texas scenes as well as a variety of submissions from the photography group members.

Photography events begin on October 1st with the Worldwide Photo Walk, a social photography event where photographers get together, usually in a downtown area or trendy section of town, to walk around, shoot photos, and have fun with other photographers. After the walk, each participant has the opportunity to submit their best photo into a contest. The BAA Photo Group will meet in Mason at the Mason County courthouse. “The Square has many storefronts with photographic possibilities,” says Julie Mize, BAA Photo Group member. “And not far beyond the Square are other interesting sites like the Seaquist House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Mason County Library with a sculpture commemorating Fred Gipson’s book Old Yeller, and also the Odeon Theater which has been in operation since 1928.”

On October 6th, the BAA Photo Group will host their “All About Texas” photography exhibit and reception from 5-8 p.m. at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Avenue in downtown Brownwood. This event is sponsored by KTXS, the Brownwood Art Association, the Arts Council, ASAP Creative Arts, Down Home Digital, and Brookshire’s and will include free BBQ catered by the Diamond R Store & Café, and music by Bob Brewer. It’s going to be really great to meet her, see her work, and hear about her adventures,” says BAA Photo Group Member Amanda Coers. The public is encouraged to attend.
