The mosquito-transmitted Zika Virus is a threat to the health of unborn babies in Texas and other states. We know that. How much of a threat is it in our area? Exactly what can be done to protect yourself and your family? How do we get the most up to date, truthful information? Mark your calendars for Monday, August 29, 2016. That is the date of a double header Zika Virus program to be presented by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service here in Brown County.

The first program will be presented at the Adams Street Community Center at 4 p.m. on August 29th. It is being sponsored by the City of Brownwood. The second program will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 29th. It will be held at the May School in May. It is sponsored by the May Independent School District.

Both of these programs are open to anyone interested, free of charge. The program presenter will be Dr. Charles Allen, Professor, Extension Associate Entomology Department Head from San Angelo, Texas. Dr. Allen will provide an update on the spread of Zika Virus in Texas, dispel the myths associated with the virus and discuss methods to protect yourself and family.

“We can’t simply stay in-doors to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes so now is the time to take precautionary measures to fight Zika Virus as well as other mosquito problems such as West Nile,” stated Brown County AgriLife Extension Agent Scott Anderson.

Again, both of the programs set for August 29th are open to anyone interested at no cost regardless of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
