Police discover Ted is really Fred

While on patrol Tuesday, BPD Officer Acosta was dispatched to the intersection of W. Commerce and Clement in reference to an intoxicated person. Acosta observed the suspect who was lawfully detained while an investigation ensued for panhandling. The suspect identified himself as Ted Johnson. It was later determined that “Ted” was really Freddie Thomas. Acosta smelled a strong odor of alcohol and believed Thomas was a threat to himself and others. Thomas was placed under arrest for public intoxication and failure to identify – giving false or fictitious information.

In other incidents:

  • An officer was dispatched in reference to a domestic disturbance. Contact was made with Kyle Burrows, who upon further investigation, was determined to be the aggressor when he recklessly caused bodily injurty to the victim. Burrows was arrested for assault family violence-causing bodily injury.
  • An officer was dispatched to the 1600 block of Durham Ave. in reference to a burglary. A report was generated
  • An officer was dispatched to the 600 block of 2nd St. in reference to a medical emergency. Contact was made with all involved parties and a report was generated.
  • An officer was dispatched to the 7-Eleven at 1501 Coggin Ave. regarding a robbery. Upon arrival, the officer noticed a male run from the store. After further investigation, Matthew Mendez was arrested for alarm/report and public intoxication.
  • A report was taken in the 400 block of E. Commerce in reference to a theft. A report was taken and passed on for further investigation.
  • An officer took a report at the law enforcement center regarding a hit and run.
  • Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Bond St. in reference to a domestic disturbance. A report was taken to be passed on for further investigation.
  • Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Temp in reference to a theft. A report was taken and passed on for further investigation.
