Law enforcement continuing to crack down on drugs

Law enforcement have been busy the last few days and have made several drug arrests. First, On October 17, at approximately 4 p.m., Brownwood Police Corporal Brandon Miller conducted a traffic stop on a 2002 Chevrolet pickup for speeding in the 1800 block of Belle Plain Street. After first observing the vehicle speeding and attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle made evasive turns in an attempt to avoid being stopped. The traffic stop was eventually conducted in the 300 block of Hackberry Street. The driver and sole occupant of the truck, later identified as Casey Joe Beabout, 21 years old of Abilene, acted very nervous during the traffic stop. During the course of the traffic stop, a set of digital scales with methamphetamine residue was located in Beabout’s pocket. During questioning, Beabout admitted to having methamphetamine in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing approximately 42 grams of suspected methamphetamine next to the driver’s seat. Narcotics investigators from the Brownwood Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. Beaubout was arrested and charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, Over 4 Grams and Under 200 Grams, a Second Degree Felony and booked into the Brown County Jail.

Secondly, two men who were arrested following a trooper’s discovery of 6 pounds of marijuana are free on bonds. Douglas Clayton, 36, whose hometown was not given, and Fidel Rodriguez, 30, of Austin, were arrested following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 67 west of Bangs, the Department of Public Safety said. Both men were charged with possession of marijuana over 5 pounds under 50 pounds and possession of a controlled substance, Brown County Jail records state. The two were traveling from Colorado to Austin when the trooper stopped their vehicle for a traffic violation, the DPS said. The trooper had probable cause to search the vehicle after smelling the odor the marijuana. The trooper also found THC wax and THC candy, the DPS said. Bond for each man was set at $20,000.
