Members of the Central Texas Veterans Memorial discovered a disturbing event when arriving at the memorial Sunday morning. The memorial area is located adjacent to the VA Clinic in Brownwood.

Four of the slab monuments were destroyed, lying in pieces. There is no indication as to how the monuments were destroyed. One member said he believed strong winds over the weekend could have been the cause. It is unknown at this time if foul play is the reason for the destruction. The damage has been estimated at $40,000.

The group will still hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the location May 28.
