Commissioners approve $94,000 expenditure for DAs office

During today’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioners, the court discussed selling fireworks during one week in April. County Judge Ray West explained that with some holidays, no action taken by the court means the sale of fireworks is permitted, while with others, action needs to be taken. The court unanimously approved the permitting of the sale of fireworks from April 16th thru April 21st in honor of San Jacinto Day.

In other business, Sheriff Vance Hill reported that jail count at 153. District Attorney Micheal Murray gave a presentation regarding software and related equipment his office will be purchasing because of the current system being outdated. Murray explained that the software needed to be upgraded because the flow of information and laws change periodically Murray said the system would streamline receiving information from the police departments and sheriff’s office. Murray said the proposed new system would be beneficial for all attorneys involved in a criminal trial because alerts would be sent out requiring paperwork that would be due at a specific time. After a lengthy discussion, the court approved an expenditure from the district attorney’s forfeiture fund in the amount of roughly $94,000 for the request $23, 512 for the software, $8,556 to Apollo Computers for equipment and $23,500 for a 12-year maintenance plan.

The court took no action regarding a burn ban, which means there is still no burn ban in the county.
