City of Early sees huge jump in sales tax allocations

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar will be sending $759 million in local sales tax allocations for July, 11.6 percent more than in July 2017. These allocations are based on sales made in May by businesses that report tax monthly. Locally, the City of Early made the largest monthly jump, collecting $96,459.38, a 28.67% leap over last year’s total during this same time period of $74, 962.68. However, Early has experienced a slight year to date decrease. In 2017, the city received $638,942.49, a 2.32% decrease from this year’s to date total of $623,942.49. September’s allocation should reflect a major increase, due to the opening of Hobby Lobby.

The City of Bangs received a monthly allocation of $11,485.25, a 10.74% increase over this same time period last year of $10,370.84. Year to date, Bangs has received $84,383.59, a 3.9% increase of last year’s to date total of $81,191.55.

Blanket continues to climb in current and year to date totals. This month, Blanket will receive $1,646.27, a 9.33% increase over this same period last year of $1,508.51. Year to date, Blanket has experienced a 14.60% jump over the 2017 total of $12,959.24. This year’s to date total is $14,851.38.

The City of Brownwood, for the first time in several months has seen a slight monthly decrease. In the 2017 July payment, Brownwood received $409,221.33, a 3.17% decrease over this year’s July payment of $396,210.67. However, Brownwood continues to see year to date growth, receiving an allocation this month of $3,119,432.05, an 8.95% increase over July’s to date total of $2,863,080.96. Again, the current sales tax allocations sent to cities are a reflection of May sales.
